Healing Through Horses Offers equine assisted therapy and education at their New Gloucester arena.   They have just completed a motorcycle fundraiser called "Horses for Heroes", with the goal of serving veterans and service members. With the funds that they raised they are offering  therapeutic sessions without charge for veterans, National Guard and Reserve members, and their families.  Health Affiliates Maine( HAM) is partnering with them to provide assistance in connecting veterans, services members, and supporting organizations to this new resource.

Equine Assisted Therapy is different than traditional talk therapy and is often a very good fit for military service members.  The DOD also endorses this evidence-based practice.  Horses for Heroes also offers educational
equine programs which may be a good first step before individual treatment which can allow a service member to get comfortable with the horses and the setting.  The clinicians are Julie Stewart, LCPC, and Sandy Fletcher, LCSW.
